Old News
September 2007:
We're working to promote Natural News this month, with a booth at some Farmers Markets, more posters and handouts, and news releases. D.J. produced a great video for the site about City Farm, check it out!
It was a great summer here in R.I. ...Tall Ships, jazz, Block Island, East Beach, Vermont.... I went to Oshkosh as usual in July, and got to fly aboard the Goodyear Blimp.
In August I went flying in New Mexico for a Robb Report assignment. Working on that story now, plus having fun with school.
May 2007:
Our site redesign at Natural News has launched, and it looks GREAT. Next is to build up our traffic and content, and cultivate some sponsorship to make the site self-sustaining for the long term.
I'm working on features for Robb Report, Rhode Island Monthly, and Edible Rhody. Plus writing for AVweb every week. Intro Geography at Rhode Island College is over, just the grades to catch up on. Teaching Intro Geology online for Northeastern.
It was nice to win another First Place award for Rhode Island Monthly in the RIPA competition.
Traveled to Florida for the Sun 'n Fun Airshow, then to California to visit an aerobatics flight school and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
March 2007:
Our site redesign at Natural News is just about ready for launch, still tweaking it and adding new features, but will announce it to our mailing list by the end of the month.
I'm working on features for Robb Report and Rhode Island Monthly, writing for AVweb every week, and teaching Intro Geography at Rhode Island College. Already finished one six-week online course for Northeastern, and another one starts in April.
A trip to Florida coming up in April for the Sun 'n Fun Airshow, so the calendar is pretty full.
January 2007:
Launching into the New Year, I have a site redesign under way at Natural News, adding more interactive features, enhancing the site structure to provide easier access to all the content, and building an online green marketplace.
My "Mountains in the Sea" story looked great in Cosmos, Australia's science magazine. I'm working on getting a scanner hooked up so I can start archiving pix of all my magazine stories.
Still working on eco-stories for Edible Rhody and Rhode Island Monthly that are due this month.
I'm teaching an online course for Northeastern University, which runs for six weeks, about Natural Disasters. Rhode Island College starts late in the month, and I'll be teaching a course in intro geography.
Otherwise, my daily blog about eco-travel at BootsnAll keeps me busy, and I have a few magazine-story pitches in the works. And I'm hoping to get around to updating the rest of this site, too.
I'm trying to plan out my calendar and find some time for travelling. 2007 is shaping up to be a busy year!
November 2006:
I have a story in the works for the next issue of Cosmos, Australia's science magazine. I'm also talking with the editors of G, Cosmos' new green-lifestyle magazine, about a story on eco-travel.
Rhode Island Monthly is coming out with a green issue in the spring, so I'm working on a feature story for that.
Watch for the first issue of Edible Rhody in March. I'm writing a story for them, and the issue will also have an ad for Natural News Network.
Natural News continues to attract positive feedback, and great contributions from volunteer collaborators. Not enough time this semester to work on it as much as I'd like, but it's still evolving and will continue to grow.
I attended the Sustainable Tourism Summit in Pawtucket on November 15. There is a lot of interesting stuff going on in Rhode Island, and I hope to contribute to some new projects there.
October 2006: The BootsnAll blog about eco-travel launched Oct. 23, and was named a "Favourite Green of the Week" by treehugger. It's a lot of fun to write, and I'm hoping it will grow fast. Please visit, and tell your friends about it! The October issue of Rhode Island Monthly included my story about weather, everyone's favorite obsession. Robb Report's October issue featured my report about a new class of very-light jets, now starting customer deliveries. I attended the annual meeting of the Society of Environmental Journalists in Vermont this month. It was my first time at one of their events, and well worthwhile! |
